A Major Milestone in the Transformation of Kursaal Ostend
The moment has arrived: the first concrete has been poured, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of our beloved concert hall. Last week, the first batch of concrete was poured, followed today by the second phase. The casting of the new concrete structure marks the end of the extensive demolition works and signals the beginning of the exciting reconstruction phase. The newly poured grandstand contains more than 60 tonnes of steel and 410 cubic metres of concrete, providing a solid foundation for the innovative lifting system. Thanks to this system, the hall will soon be able to transform rapidly from a seated configuration into a standing venue. More atmosphere, more experiences, more possibilities.

Concrete with a Mission
Behind what may seem like a simple concrete pour lies an entire world of engineering and expertise. This is no ordinary floor: it is a highly technical foundation designed to support thousands of visitors while accommodating the moving components of an ingenious lifting system.
To make this possible, a specially engineered high-strength concrete mix was used, perfectly tailored to the load-bearing capacity and precision required by the system. The pouring operation itself demanded meticulous coordination: concrete mixers arrived one after another, while a concrete pump connected to more than 80 metres of piping operated at full capacity. Everything had to be completed in a single continuous process to ensure a seamless and perfectly uniform result. The new floor will also be polished to an exceptionally high level of flatness — a true demonstration of craftsmanship.
For this phase alone, more than 984 tonnes of concrete were used. That is roughly the weight of 131 elephants, carefully distributed across what will become our future multifunctional floor. The concrete now needs time to cure, but before long it will form the foundation of a venue that can adapt to every type of event.
